Player’s league age 9 through 12.

The 10 through 12 year olds will participate in Fall tryout unless they were on a Major league team last year, then they are only required to register.  After the tryouts end, by October (2022) there will be a draft to fill the Major league rosters. 

The 9 year olds will participate in a separate spring (2023) tryout/evaluation only.

Players (10-12) are required to attend the Fall tryout in order to be eligible for the draft into the Majors or Triple-A Leagues. There will be NO spring tryout as in years past.

Upon completion of the Major League draft players who are not selected or did not attend the tryout (10-12 year olds) along with the 9 year olds will be drafted onto Triple-A teams in early Spring 2022. The number of teams in the Triple-A league will be determined by the number of players who sign-up.

The rosters will be finished by the end of March and practices will begin early April.  Game will start end of April and end in late June.  There will be 2 to 3 games a week with one being on the weekend.  Start times during the week will be 5:45PM, or 7:45PM. Make up games if required will be played on sunday afternoons.

Fees will remain at $250.00 for 2023.

Players league age 8

This league is for Eight year olds that have already had at least one year in the AA league. The purpose of the league is to be more competitive than AA, incorporating some of the rules of the Major division. This age group will participate in a try-out/evaluation late March. After the try-out there will be a selection process to construct rosters base on talent and school district. The rosters will be finished by early April and practices will begin soon after. Game will start after the April school vacation and end late June. There will be one game during the week and one on Saturday, week-night games will be 5:30PM.

Double A (AA)   Ages 6 & 7  (first through third grades)

This Instructional League further teaches basic skills (throw, hit, catch flies, field grounders, and run bases) to small groups of boys and girls.  Roster will be set in the middle of April and practices will be schedules soon after.  Season will start the first weekend of May and end late June.  Mostly 2 games a week with one of them on the weekend.  Games start 5:30pm during the week and various times on the weekend.

Tee Ball                Age 4 to 6 (Pre-k & K)

This Instructional League is intended to teach basic skills (throw, hit, catch flies, field grounders, run bases) to small groups of boys and girls. The first half of each session is devoted to instruction. The second half of each session is used for game playing using a batting tee. Saturday and Sunday afternoons 3:00PM to 4:30PM at various fields throughout the town. Rosters will be set around mid April and the first session will be the first weekend of May and ending on Father's Day weekend in June.  Rosters in general are based on school districts.

Girls Fast Pitch Softball, U12 Age Division (born 2010 - 2011)

Registration for girls ages 11 and 12 (as of 12/31/22).  This age division, though competitive, has some age appropriate rule modifications with a focus on fundamentals and play development.  Players pitch and patched ump are used.  Games are typically played twice a week (Monday-Friday), and may have an additional practice that could include a weekend.  Practices start once fields are open (around April 1st).  Games begin mid-late April and run through mid June with a league-wide weekend tournament at the end.

Space may be limited to maintain roster size. Depending on the number of players registered by 02/28/23, we reserve the option to hold a player assessment and draft. Any registration received after 02/28/23 may be waitlisted.

Note: Arlington softball teams play in the City/Town League, which currently consists of teams from Allston-Brighton, Arlington, Belmont, Waltham, Watertown and Winchester.  City/town League by-laws can be found under the documents tab of the AYBSA website.

This program is open to girls ages 7 and 8 on 12/31/22. This is our entry level softball with a focus on fundamentals and fun.  Rules are modified to be age appropriate.  There will be one game a week (against neighboring towns) with one or two practices. In the past games were played on Tuesday or Thursdays.

As with all organizations that work with children under the age of 18 years old,  AYBSA requires all managers, coaches, and volunteers to supply information about themselves so AYBSA can run a Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI) check. You need only fill this form out once, name list are saved year to year and sent in for the check once a year.
